A recent study has found that people can actually shrink their brains!!. They can do this by eating junk food….LOL. The study published in the online journal Neurology looked at 104 persons, including a majority of women, with the average age of 87. Blood was exmained for the levels and types of nutrients and the brains were scanned to measure brain volume.
It was found that people who had more trans fats in their blood were more likely to have brain shrinkage and scored lower on thinking and memory tests. Trans fats are found in fast foods as well as frozen and packaged foodstuffs and margarine. However, people who had more of vitamins like C, D, E and B in their blood scored higher on mental tests and had less brain shrinkage. Those who had high levels of omega 3 fatty acids, also had high scores. Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D are primarily found in fish, while B vitamins and antioxidants C and E are found in fruits and vegetables. Brain shrinkages is associated with Alzheimer’s, dementia and so forth.
